20 ways to keep your internet identity safe from hackers

20 ways to keep your internet identity safe from hackers

Do you use the same password for all websites? Do you overshare on Facebook? If so, you're a target for cybercriminals – whose computer scams are costing Britain £27bn a year. We asked experts for their top tips to beat the fraudsters
20 ways to beat hackers: digital people saying 'My identity has been stolen'
Cybercrime costs Britain £27 billion a year: don't make it easy for the fraudsters.
We're high up in the Gherkin in the City of London and Garry Sidaway, director of security strategy at Integralis, a firm which advises government agencies, pharmaceutical and financial services multinationals, is giving my computer a security MOT. "You don't have anti-virus software, I see," he says, a trace of mockery in his voice. "That's your first mistake."
According to Sidaway, while most of us are much more aware of the risks now ("My mum shreds her documents even if she doesn't know why," he says), we should all be raising the bar. He thinks we Britons are an overly trusting lot. Sitting ducks for an armada of hackers, who are every bit as focused on stealing our data as we are relaxed about storing it. "The criminal gangs know exactly which kind of data they want and where it is likely to be," he explains. "Conversely we're not sure what they're after."
So what are they after, I ask? "We are seeing a wide variety of attacks – everything from opportunists trying to extract passwords through phishing [emails which purport to be from legitimate sources and attempt to get us to click on an infected link] to highly organised crime units targeting businesses and government systems in an effort to steal intellectual property and information related to critical infrastructure."
The government estimates that the total cost of cybercrime in the UK is £27bn a year. The majority (£21bn) is committed against businesses, which face high levels of intellectual property theft and industrial espionage.
Enabled by the sharing culture on social media – and with ever more sophisticated malicious software known as malware at their disposal – cybercriminals have become far more adept at crafting attacks and targeting individuals and organisations. Phishing emails purporting to be from friends, often reflecting our interests – perhaps gleaned from social media sites – or from trusted organisations such as your bank or HM Revenue & Customs encourage us to click on infected links or attachments containing malware. (A recent example of the latter was malware disguised as a security warning from Microsoft's digital crimes unit.) "We have a level of trust in certain organisations and criminals exploit that trust," says Sidaway.
Typically, these so-called "man-in-the-middle" attacks install colourfully named Trojans (pieces of malware, essentially) such as Zeus, SpyEye or Citadel on computers, which have the effect of compromising, for example, online banking transactions. "Everything you then do on your compromised laptop is subverted through a hacking site which means when you [communicate] with your bank, you are going through a man in the middle. Initially, man-in-the-middle attacks were passwords used in authentication – the criminal would wait until you had finished to start using the credentials they'd just gathered. This is why banks brought in one-time passwords or codes," he says.
"But more recent malware will perform a man-in-the-middle attack to obtain the user's session (a session is created after a user logs in successfully and the browser and the bank's website use this to continue the interaction) and fake the logout requests. Once the user thinks they've logged out, the attacker can make payments using the existing session without the victim seeing any changes to their balance until the next time they log on. This is partly why banks have rolled out card readers to help prevent payments to new payees." He adds: "It's a constant game of cat and mouse."

TWENTY COMMANDMENTS: THE DOS AND DON'TS OF ONLINE SAFETY

1. Never click on a link you did not expect to receive
The golden rule. The main way criminals infect PCs with malware is by luring users to click on a link or open an attachment. "Sometimes phishing emails contain obvious spelling mistakes and poor grammar and are easy to spot," says Sidaway of Integralis. "However, targeted attacks and well-executed mass mailings can be almost indistinguishable [from genuine emails]." Social media has helped criminals profile individuals, allowing them to be much more easily targeted, he adds. "They can see what you're interested in or what you [post] about and send you crafted messages, inviting you to click on something. Don't."
2. Use different passwords on different sites
With individuals typically having anything up to 100 online accounts, the tendency has become to share one or two passwords across accounts or use very simple ones, such as loved ones' names, first pets or favourite sports teams. Indeed, research by Ofcom last month revealed that over half of UK adults (55%) use the same passwords for most, if not all, websites they visit, while one in four (26%) use birthdays or names as passwords. Any word found in the dictionary is easily crackable. Instead, says Sian John, online security consultant at Symantec, have one memorable phrase or a line from a favourite song or poem. For example: "The Observer is a Sunday newspaper" becomes "toiasn". Add numerals and a special character thus: "T0!asn". Now for every site you log on to, add the first and last letter of that site to the start and end of the phrase, so the password for Amazon would be "AT0!asnn". At first glance, unguessable. But for you, still memorable."
3. Never reuse your main email password
A hacker who has cracked your main email password has the keys to your [virtual] kingdom. Passwords from the other sites you visit can be reset via your main email account. A criminal can trawl through your emails and find a treasure trove of personal data: from banking to passport details, including your date of birth, all of which enables ID fraud. Identity theft is estimated to cost the UK almost £2bn a year.
4. Use anti-virus software
German security institute AV-Test found that in 2010 there were 49m new strains of malware, meaning that anti-virus software manufacturers are engaged in constant game of "whack-a-mole". Sometimes their reaction times are slow – US security firm Imperva tested 40 anti-virus packages and found that the initial detection rate of a new virus was only 5%. Much like flu viruses and vaccine design, it takes the software designers a while to catch up with the hackers. Last year AV-Test published the results of a 22-month study of 27 different anti-virus suites and top-scoring packages were Bitdefender, Kaspersky and F-Secure. Meanwhile, security expert Brian Krebs published the results of a study of 42 packages which showed on average a 25% detection rate of malware – so they are not the entire answer, just a useful part of it.
5. If in doubt, block
Just say no to social media invitations (such as Facebook-friend or LinkedIn connection requests) from people you don't know. It's the cyber equivalent of inviting the twitchy guy who looks at you at the bus stop into your home.
6. Think before you tweet and how you share information
Again, the principal risk is ID fraud. Trawling for personal details is the modern day equivalent of "dumpster-diving", in which strong-stomached thieves would trawl through bins searching for personal documents, says Symantec's John. "Many of the same people who have learned to shred documents like bank statements will happily post the same information on social media. Once that information is out there, you don't necessarily have control of how other people use it." She suggests a basic rule: "If you aren't willing to stand at Hyde Park Corner and say it, don't put it on social media."
7. If you have a "wipe your phone" feature, you should set it up
Features such as Find My iPhone, Android Lost or BlackBerry Protect allow you to remotely to erase all your personal data, should your device be lost or stolen. "Absolutely, set it up," advises Derek Halliday of mobile security specialist Lookout. "In the case where your phone is gone for good, having a wipe feature can protect your information from falling into the wrong hands. Even if you didn't have the foresight to sign up, many wipe your phone features can be implemented after the fact."
8. Only shop online on secure sites
Before entering your card details, always ensure that the locked padlock or unbroken key symbol is showing in your browser, cautions industry advisory body Financial Fraud Action UK. Additionally the beginning of the online retailer's internet address will change from "http" to "https" to indicate a connection is secure. Be wary of sites that change back to http once you've logged on.
9. Don't assume banks will pay you back
20 ways to stop hackers: 'I've been the victim of online credit card fraud' Banks must refund a customer if he or she has been the victim of fraud, unless they can prove that the customer has acted "fraudulently" or been "grossly negligent". Yet as with any case of fraud, the matter is always determined on an individual basis. "Anecdotally, a customer who has been a victim of a phishing scam by unwittingly providing a fraudster with their account details and passwords only to be later defrauded could be refunded," explains Michelle Whiteman, spokesperson for the Payments Council, an industry body. "However, were they to fall victim to the same fraud in the future, after their bank had educated them about how to stay safe, it is possible a subsequent refund won't be so straightforward. Under payment services regulations, the onus is on the payment-service provider to prove that the customer was negligent, not vice versa. Credit card protection is provided under the Consumer Credit Act and offers similar protection."
10. Ignore pop-ups
Pop-ups can contain malicious software which can trick a user into verifying something. "[But if and when you do], a download will be performed in the background, which will install malware," says Sidaway. "This is known as a drive-by download. Always ignore pop-ups offering things like site surveys on e-commerce sites, as they are sometimes where the malcode is."
11. Be wary of public Wi-Fi
Most Wi-Fi hotspots do not encrypt information and once a piece of data leaves your device headed for a web destination, it is "in the clear" as it transfers through the air on the wireless network, says Symantec's Sian John. "That means any 'packet sniffer' [a program which can intercept data] or malicious individual who is sitting in a public destination with a piece of software that searches for data being transferred on a Wi-Fi network can intercept your unencrypted data. If you choose to bank online on public Wi-Fi, that's very sensitive data you are transferring. We advise either using encryption [software], or only using public Wi-Fi for data which you're happy to be public – and that shouldn't include social network passwords."
12. Run more than one email account
20 ways to stop hackers: 'Help, my Mac keeps getting viruses' Thinking about having one for your bank and other financial accounts, another for shopping and one for social networks. If one account is hacked, you won't find everything compromised. And it helps you spot phishing emails, because if an email appears in your shopping account purporting to come from your bank, for example, you'll immediately know it's a fake.
13. Macs are as vulnerable as PCs
Make no mistake, your shiny new MacBook Air can be attacked too. It's true that Macs used to be less of a target, simply because criminals used to go after the largest number of users – ie Windows – but this is changing. "Apple and Microsoft have both added a number of security features which have significantly increased the effectiveness of security on their software," says Sidaway, "but determined attackers are still able to find new ways to exploit users on almost any platform."
14. Don't store your card details on websites
Err on the side of caution when asked if you want to store your credit card details for future use. Mass data security breaches (where credit card details are stolen en masse) aren't common, but why take the risk? The extra 90 seconds it takes to key in your details each time is a small price to pay.
15. Add a DNS service to protect other devices
A DNS or domain name system service converts a web address (a series of letters) into a machine-readable IP address (a series of numbers). You're probably using your ISP's DNS service by default, but you can opt to subscribe to a service such as OpenDNS or Norton ConnectSafe, which redirect you if you attempt to access a malicious site, says Sian John. "This is helpful for providing some security (and parental control) across all the devices in your home including tablets, TVs and games consoles that do not support security software. But they shouldn't be relied upon as the only line of defence, as they can easily be bypassed."
16. Enable two-step verification
If your email or cloud service offers it – Gmail, Dropbox, Apple and Facebook do – take the trouble to set this up. In addition to entering your password, you are also asked to enter a verification code sent via SMS to your phone. In the case of Gmail you only have to enter a fresh code every 30 days or when you log on from a different computer or device. So a hacker might crack your password, but without the unique and temporary verification code should not be able to access your account.
17. Lock your phone and tablet devices
Keep it locked, just as you would your front door. Keying in a password or code 40-plus times a day might seem like a hassle but, says Lookout's Derek Halliday, "It's your first line of defence." Next-generation devices, however, are set to employ fingerprint scanning technology as additional security.
18. Be careful on auction sites
On these sites in particular, says Symantec's Sian John, exercise vigilance. "Check the seller feedback and if a deal looks too good then it may well be," she says. "Keep your online payment accounts secure by regularly changing your passwords, checking the bank account to which it is linked and consider having a separate bank account or credit card for use on them, to limit any potential fraud still further."
19. Lock down your Facebook account
20 ways to stop hackers: 'What's the problem with sharing my Facebook info with friends of friends?' Facebook regularly updates its timeline and privacy settings, so it is wise to monitor your profile, particularly if the design of Facebook has changed. Firstly, in the privacy settings menu, under "who can see my stuff?" change this to "friends" (be warned: setting this to "friends of friends" means that, according to one Pew study, on average you are sharing information with 156,569 people). Also in privacy, setting "limit old posts" applies friends-only sharing to past as well as future posts. Thirdly, disable the ability of other search engines to link to your timeline.
You should also review the activity log, which shows your entire history of posts and allows you to check who can see them. Similarly, you should look at your photo albums and check you're happy with the sharing settings for each album. In the future you may want to consider building "lists" – subsets of friends, such as close friends and family, who you might want to share toddler photographs with, rather than every Tom, Dick and Harriet.
Also, remove your home address, phone number, date of birth and any other information that could used to fake your identity. Similarly you might want to delete or edit your "likes" and "groups" – the more hackers know about you, the more convincing a phishing email they can spam you with. Facebook apps often share your data, so delete any you don't use or don't remember installing. Finally, use the "view as" tool to check what the public or even a particular individual can see on your profile, continue to "edit" and adjust to taste. If this all sounds rather tedious, you just might prefer to permanently delete your account.
20. Remember you're human after all
While much of the above are technical solutions to prevent you being hacked and scammed, hacking done well is really the skill of tricking human beings, not computers, by preying on their gullibility, taking advantage of our trust, greed or altruistic impulses.Human error is still the most likely reason why you'll get hacked.

Best Leadership Advice: Business Success Secrets from 7 Top Leaders

The Best Advice I Ever Got.” It was a great article that offered wit and wisdom about achieving business success. I liked it so much, that it motivated me to produce my newest book, Leadership—Best Advice I Ever Got, which describes the best leadership advice 136 successful CEOs, coaches, consultants, professors, managers, executives, presidents, politicians, and religious leaders received that most helped them become effective and successful leaders.
Here are 7 secrets to leadership success:
1. Leadership is about making things happen
If you want to make something happen with your life – in school, in your profession or in your community, do it. Perceived obstacles crumble against persistent desire. John Baldoni, Author, Leadership Communication Consultant and Founder of Baldoni Consulting LLC, shared this advice that had come from his father, a physician. He taught him the value of persistence. At the same time, his mother taught him compassion for others. Therefore, persistence for your cause should not be gained at the expense of others. Another bit of leadership wisdom!
2. Listen and understand the issue, then lead
Time and time again we have all been told, “God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason”…or as Stephen Covey said…”Seek to understand, rather than be understood.” As a leader, listening first to the issue, then trying to coach, has been the most valuable advice that Cordia Harrington, President and CEO of Tennessee Bun Company has been given.
3. Answer the three questions everyone within your organization wants answers to
What the people of an organization want from their leader are answers to the following: Where are we going? How are we going to get there? What is my role? Kevin Nolan, President & Chief Executive Officer of Affinity Health Systems, Inc. believes the more clarity that can be added to each of the three questions, the better the result.
4. Master the goals that will allow you to work anywhere in today’s dynamic business world
Debbe Kennedy, President, CEO and Founder of Global Dialogue Center and Leadership Solutions Companies, and author of Action Dialogues and Breakthrough once shared this piece of advice that was instrumental in shaping her direction, future and achievements.
She was a young manager at IBM just promoted to her first staff assignment in a regional marketing office. For reasons she can’t explain, one of her colleagues named Bookie called her into his office while she was visiting his location. He then began to offer unsolicited advice, but advice that now stays fresh in her mind. He mentioned that jobs, missions, titles and organizations would come and go as business is dynamic– meaning it is always changing. He advised her not to focus your goals toward any of these, but instead learn to master the skills that will allow you to work anywhere.
He was talking about four skills:
The ability to develop an idea Effectively plan for its implementation Execute second-to-none Achieve superior results time after time.
With this in mind, Kennedy advises readers to seek jobs and opportunities with this in mind. Forget what others do. Work to be known for delivering excellence. It speaks for itself and it opens doors.
5. Be curious
Curiosity is a prerequisite to continuous improvement and even excellence. The person who gave Mary Jean Thornton, Former Executive Vice President & CIO, The Travelers this advice urged her to study people, processes, and structures. He inspired her to be intellectually curious. He often reminded Thornton that making progress, in part, was based upon thinking. She has learned to apply this notion of intellectual curiosity by thinking about her organization’s future, understanding the present, and knowing and challenging herself to creatively move the people and the organization closer to its vision.
6. Listen to both sides of the argument
The most valuable advice Brian P. Lees, Massachusetts State Senator and Senate Minority Leader ever received came from his mentor, United States Senator Edward W. Brooke III. He told him to listen to all different kinds of people and ideas. Listening only to those who share your background and opinions can be imprudent. It is important to respect your neighbors’ rights to their own views. Listening to and talking with a variety of people, from professors to police officers, from senior citizens to schoolchildren, is essential not only to be a good leader in business, but to also be a valuable member within your community.
7. Prepare, prepare, prepare
If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail. If one has truly prepared and something goes wrong the strength of the rest of what you’ve prepared for usually makes this something easier to handle without crisis and panic. One of the best pieces of advice Dave Hixson, Men’s Varsity Basketball Coach at Amherst College has ever received and continues to use and pass on is this anonymous quote—”Preparation is the science of winning.”
Along with this are two expressions from Rick Pitino’s book Success is a Choice, which speaks to preparation. Hixson asks his teams every year: “Do you deserve to win?” and “Have you done the work?” This speaks to the importance of preparation toward achieving your final goal. If you haven’t done the work (preparation) the answer to the second question is an easy “no!”
Great advice comes from many sources – parents, other relatives, consultants, bosses, co-workers, mentors, teachers, coaches, and friends. The important point to remember is to stay open, listen to everyone, but also develop your own leadership style.

7 Keys To Praying In A Financial Miracle

7 Keys To Praying In A Financial Miracle

Need a financial miracle?  The wrong place to look for answers and direction is Google Search.

I did a search on “how to pray for financial miracles.”

The first reference was an ad offering me a miracle prayer cloth.

I believe in prayer cloths. . .I have given them away in times past and may even do so again because Paul gave them away in the book of Acts when the anointing was strong.  However, I don’t think a prayer cloth is the first key to your miracle.

The second reference began by saying:

“Dear Lord, we pray for a favor that financial miracles may come our way the soonest. We don't ask for more than what we need Lord.

We just need the right amount we need to clear all our debts as well as my husband's. Nothing more than that Lord.”

Ok, I’m good with the prayer cloth. . .but let me tell you I’m going to ask for more than what I need. . .because there’s a world that needs my help as well.  It’s not just about me and mine.

Anyone who would limit or restrict God’s blessing flow needs a check-up from the neck-up. . .and a better understanding of the Word.

Let’s establish some basic facts.

First, our God is a God of miracles.

Second, make sure the windows of heaven are open over your life.

Third, He hears and answers your prayers because He promised He would.

Fourth, His best is not about us living from miracle to miracle.

Fifth, if you doubt your miracle manifestation . . .you will do without it.

Sixth, make it a part of your daily confession.

Seventh, stop doing stupid things financially and begin using His wisdom.

I could very easily teach those seven points. . .they’re all good. . .but they’re not the ones God gave me when I started this writing today.

1.         Repent Of All Unrighteousness and Foolishness.

1 John 1:9 in the Amplified Bible says:

“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].”

I rejoice that He will “cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Now that’s something so profound that we should shout enough to get up and run around the room.  Freedom from sin’s hold is huge.

To be unrighteous. . .we have first been righteous.  If we were still sinners, then we would not have been righteous.  So at some point it means we were born again.

Sadly, there are too many folks who’ve attended church, sang songs of praise and love the Lord only to backslide.   Generally, people who backslide are not disappointed with God but with themselves or another “saint” in the church.  Unfortunately, sometimes it’s the pastor who has fallen into sin.

People tend to look toward and often idolize the messenger instead of the One in the message.  But alas, this line of thinking should be in a teaching of its own.

It’s interesting that the verse equates unrighteousness with “everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought and action.”

So putting it that way, we could say . . . if we are not conforming to the purpose, thought-process and actions of the Lord and His Word, then we’re guilty of unrighteousness.  Are we teachable? Do we daily desire to do what He wants instead of what we want?

What is God purpose for your life?

If you’re not dreaming it. . .living it. . .manifesting it. . .then are you guilty of unrighteousness?  That’s an interesting thought, isn’t it?

Have you sought His presence to determine His plans for you?

Exodus 9:16 in the Amplified Bible says:

“But for this very purpose have I let you live, that I might show you My power, and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth.”

One more scripture. . .Romans 9:17 says:

“For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.”

Repenting of unrighteousness is more than confessing the obvious sins. . .it’s not flowing in His purpose for our lives. . .not thinking as He would have us think. . .and not doing what He would have us do.  When He shows us something we need to change, are we willing to change it to please Him?

Our righteousness. . .brings glory and honor to Him.

Bottom line. . .if you’re praying for a financial miracle. . .repent of everything that you know holds you back.

2.         Recognize and Praise Him As A Miracle Working God.

If you need a financial miracle. . .you should be praising God for what He’s already done in your life.

Sadly, when under economic attack. . .many believers shift into panic instead of praise mode.  Feeling desperate . . .depressed and helpless.

If you’ve felt that way, Psalm 34:2 offers some great advice for you:

“. . .let all who are helpless take heart.”

To be helpless is to be without help.  If you feel helpless. . .that’s the perfect time to begin rejoicing and praising God for His faithful promises..

How do you take heart in the middle of a storm. . .by praising Him in all things.

The Message Bible translation of Psalm 34:2 says:

“I live and breathe God; if things aren't going well, hear this and be happy.”

In the midst of your financial storm. . .don’t feel helpless. . .be happy as you Praise Him.

Psalm 34:3 says:

“O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

No matter what. . .He is so worthy of all our praise. . .that phrase is so much more than song lyrics . . .it should be our lifestyle.

Actually, Psalm 34 is full of encouraging scriptures to praise God for and claim in the midst of any battle:

4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the Lordheard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the Lordencampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

15 The eyes of the Lordare upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

17 The righteous cry, and the Lordheareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lorddelivereth him out of them all.

22 The Lordredeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Psalm 35:28 in the Amplified Bible offers some pretty good advice:

“And my tongue shall talk of Your righteousness, rightness, and justice, and of [my reasons for] Your praise all the day long.”

Without question, if you want to feel the presence of the Lord fast, then start praising Him.  There is a lot to praise Him for.

Praising Him for what you’ve got. . .regardless of how meager it may seem. . .and what He’s going to do. . .is a giant step towards your financial miracle.

3.         You Gotta Know He Doesn’t Play Favorites—You are a favorite.

God has given me a new look at a well-known and often quoted scripture.

Acts 10:34 says:

“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.”

The New International Version says:

“Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism.”

I have read Acts 10:34 in thirteen different translations and I have not seen any sort of asterisk or footnote indicating that this scripture doesn’t apply to everybody on planet earth.

Having said all that. . .let me give you a different perspective.

Acts 10:34 in the Message Bible says:

“Peter fairly exploded with his good news: "It's God's own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you're from—if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.”

God plays no favorites. . .that is absolute. . .but you can determine whether or not He does for you.  Let’s examine this verse a little closer.

“. . .God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you're from. . .”

This phrase confirms the fact that God doesn’t play favorites and is not a respecter of persons.   However, let’s look at the remainder of the verse.

“. . .if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.”

If you want God. . .in other words, if you ask. . .if you seek. . .if you knock. . .if you obey . . . you will find He is no respecter of persons.

Let’s say it another way. . .God respects and honors those whose hearts are open to obey His word.  I didn’t say ‘be perfect for Him.’  I said if we even desire to obey Him.

Think about it.

4.         Ask With Specificity

Let me ask you several questions.

Do you want a raise?  How much?  When do you want the raise to become effective?

When do you plan to pay off your first debt?  How will you do it?  What’s your plan?  When and how will you pay off your second debt?

How much weight do you want to release?  I don’t like the phrase “lose weight” because when you lose something …your natural reaction is to find it.  When will you start exercising?  What days of the week?  What exercises?  How long will your exercise program last each day?

Our God is a God of specificity which is why you must be specific in your miracle prayer request.

If you don’t have specific goals you are just ‘wishing and a hoping.’  Specificity greatly increases the likelihood of greater results.

God didn’t just tell Noah to go out and build a boat . . .He was specific.

Genesis 6:14-16 in the New King James Version says:

“Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.

15 And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.

16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.”

God didn’t just tell Moses He was going to feed the children of Israel. . .He was specific.

Exodus 16:8 in the New Living Translation says:

“Then Moses added, “The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for he has heard all your complaints against him. What have we done? Yes, your complaints are against the Lord, not against us.”

Exodus 16:16 in the New Living Translation says:

“These are the Lord’s instructions: Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts for each person in your tent.”

I could give you numerous other scriptures about God’s desire for specificity in what we desire in our future and yes, even in our miracle.

Habakkuk 2:2 says:

"And the Lord... said, Write the vision, and make it plain... that he may run that readeth it.  For the vision . . . shall speak ...it will surely come, it will not tarry."

The Contemporary English Version of Habakkuk 2:2 says:

“Then the LORD told me:  ‘I will give you my message in the form of a vision.  Write it clearly enough to be read at a glance.’”

Here’s just one more . . . from the New Testament just to show you that God hasn’t changed His mind on how we approach Him.  Philippians 3:6 in the Amplified Version of the Bible says:

“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.”

Be specific.

5.         Seek Inside Information From A Source That’s Always Right

There is a phrase that I want you to repeat over and over again.

Say out loud.

“God is my closest advisor, friend and miracle provider.  He always leads me in the way that I should go.  He always gives me the best advice.  He’s never wrong.  He’s always right on time with what I need.”

James 4:2 in the New Living Translation says:

“Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.”

God is offering you inside information about your future.

The enemy of your soul. . .the nemesis of your success. . .the would-be destroyer of your destiny can try to keep you from getting the inside information that you need to make the right decisions.   But the answers are right there and available to you if you choose to read them and put them to work in your life.

James 1:5 in the New Living Translation says:

“If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You'll get his help and won't be condescended to when you ask for it.”

There is something quite comforting in knowing you have immediate and unlimited access to inside information on miracle manifestation and every other aspect of your life.

Plus the fact that God’s information is always right. . .and right on time.

Psalm 119:137-138 in the ERV (Easy to Read Version) says:

“Lord, you do what is right,  and your decisions are fair.  The rules you have given us are right.  We can trust them completely.”

God gives you inside information and . . .you can trust it completely.

6.         Identify, Knock Out and Remove All Obstacles, Hindrances, Roadblocks and Doubt.

What’s the main thing that’s keeping you from miracle manifestation?

The words:  obstacles, hindrances and roadblocks are not in the King James Version of the Bible.  But they are stumbling blocks to your miracle manifestation.

Obstacles. . .are things that block or hinder progress. . . they are things you have to overcome.

Booker T. Washington said:

“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.”

When it comes to overcoming obstacles remember the words Henry Ford once said:

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”

Hindrances. . .are things or perhaps people who are hindering you from doing what you know to do because you’ve take your eyes off your Source and them on people or circumstances.

Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin said:

“The real democratic American idea is, not that every man shall be on a level with every other man, but that every man shall have liberty to be what God made him, without hindrance.”

A roadblock. . .is an obstruction designed to send people through unknown territory and delay their progress.

Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player to every draw a breath in my opinion, said;

“If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”

Doubt. . .will make you question. . .what it is you really believe.

If you make an honest assessment of where you are in every area of your life. . .you would no doubt be able to identify what it is that’s holding you back.

The best way to overcome obstacles, hindrances and roadblocks is a direct frontal assault.

Here’s where your inside information is also of enormous benefit.

Proverbs 3:26 in the Amplified Bible says:

“For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].”

7.         Give God Your Seed with Expectation

Genesis 8:22 says:

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

There is seedtime and harvest. . .sowing and reaping. . .as long as the earth remains.

If you don’t sow with an expectation of a harvest. . .you’re wasting your time.

Too many timesI’ve heard people say, “Well, I tried tithing and it didn’t work for me.  I gave offerings but nothing happened.  I never received a harvest.  This giving stuff just doesn’t work for me.”

When people make statements about how they tried tithing and it didn’t work for them;  the truth is that God was trying them to see if they would become faithful stewards or if they’d quit.

God never gave up on them; they just gave up on Him.  A person’s expectations must be rooted in the Word of God . . .not in circumstances around them.

Galatians 6:7 in the Amplified Bible says:

“Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.”

There is confidence in knowing that whatever you sow. . .you will reap.

If you don’t send a ship out … you can’t expect one to come back.

If you leave your seed in the barn … it will never produce a crop in the field.

But don’t just send or plant… and forget it … be looking for the harvest.

Expectation brings manifestation and His rewards.

Proverbs 24:14 in the Amplified Bible says:

“So shall you know skillful and godly Wisdom to be thus to your life; if you find it, then shall there be a future and a reward, and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off."

A final thought. . .we know when we pray. . .He not only listens. . .He answers our prayers.  When we know we are lined up with the Word. . .we have every scriptural right to expect miracle manifestation in our lives.

Therefore, we must stand strong and expectant and not give in until we see the harvest.

31 day prayer focus to release wealth

31 DAY PRAYER FOCUS

--------------------

Day 1: Pray Mt 12:25-29. Bind the strongman that has robbed, plundered and taken your spoil. Jesus said this was the first step. Many times we try to enter into a new dimension of supply without operation in Jesus' "first" commands. Day 2: Pray Eph. 1:17-20. Ask God to give you revelation over how the enemy has stolen from you. Wisdom and revelation dismantle demons. Day 3: Pray Eph. 6. Ask God to give you the grace to stand against the enemy's plan that has robbed from you. Day 4: Pray Is. 42:21,22. Cry RESTORE! Ask the Lord to bring His restorative plan into your life over wealth. Even declare that how the enemy has stolen through your generational bloodline will be restored to you. Day 5: Pray Mal. 3:8-10. Declare that the generational curse of "GOD ROBBING" will be broken out of your bloodline. This is one of the four major generational curses. Day 6: Pray 2 Cor. 10:3-6. Tear down mindsets of poverty. Poverty has a voice which says, "God is not able." There are philosophies in your life that have developed wrong mindsets over wealth. Dismantle unbelief over provision. Day 7: Pray Prov. 13:18. Ask God to remove rebellious spirits of the past that have caused you not to heed instruction and discipline. Day 8: Pray Prov. 14:23. Bind a spirit of fantasy that is linked with divination. Ask God to bring you into a reality of the vision He has for your life so you have the proper supply for the right vision. Day 9: Pray Prov. 20:13. Bind a spirit of laziness and excess sleep that keeps you from spending time with the Lord and missing your window your opportunity for provision. Day 10: Pray Ps. 115:14-16. Read 2 Chron. 20. Ask God for increase. Ask Him to give you a mind for increase. Ask Him to open your heart to any prophetic word that will bring you success and cause you to be able to rake in the spoils that the enemy is holding. Day 11: Pray 2 Cor. 10. Ask God for an increase in the sphere of authority you are aligned with. Day 12: Pray Neh. 8:10. Ask God for an increase in joy which produces strength. Strength enables you to gain wealth. Day 13: Pray Prov. 10:22. Bless God and honor Him that He gives wealth as a blessing. Wealth is a blessing from God. Day 14: Pray Deut. 7:12,13; Prov. 3:9,10. Declare that you will obey Him in any request. Sometimes these requests are very simple. Day 15: Pray Prov. 8:18,21. Wealth is a reward for wisdom. Ask God for a new dimension of power. Day 16: Pray Prov. 10:4, 12:24, 14:23. Wealth is a result of enterprise and useful work Day 17: Pray Prov. 13:22; Eccles. 2:26. Wealth is taken away from the sinners and given to those who please God Day 18: Pray Prov. 22:16. Read Dan. 6, 7. Ask the Lord to expose any oppressive spirit that is stopping a release of your next level of wealth. Wealth is imperfectly distributed in this world, and it is sometimes gained through oppression and injustice. Many times there is a network or confederation of leaders set against wealth. Day 19: Pray Amos 2:6, 4:1, 8:4-6. Pray that the wealth held by oppressive leaders will be released for God's Kingdom. Day 20: Pray Prov. 23:4; Eccles. 4:8. Pray for clear vision. Provision is linked with vision. Wealth is not an end in itself. Day 21: Pray Eccles. 5:10,13; Mt. 6:24; Luke 16:13. Ask God to reveal the snares of wealth to you. Wealth is a potentially dangerous snare. Day 22: Pray 1 Sam. 2:7; Ps. 69:33; Rev. 2:9. Acknowledge God's sovereignty, and declare his favor on you for wealth Day 23: Pray Prov. 14:21; Eph. 4:28; Jas. 2:15,16; 1 John 3:17. Wealth is to be shared with the needy. Ask the Lord to define your responsibility to those who are less fortunate than you. Day 24: Pray Luke 12:33, 18:22. Wealth is sometimes to be given away completely. Be willing to give in abundance. God cannot fill our hands if we are tight fisted. Day 25: Pray Ps. 82:4. Declare deliverance from the hand of the wicked who has tied up any of your wealth Day 26: Read Ps. 22, 103, 145; Luke 1:33, 10:9, 11:2, 11:17, 12:32, 18:16, 22:30. Ask God for a Kingdom mentality. Day 27: Pray 2 Cor. 8:2. Declare that out of your poverty that you will abound in the riches of liberality. Declare that any trial of affliction will bring you into a greater abundance. Day 28: Pray Mt. 4:8-11. Do not fall to the devil's trap to operate in haste over wealth. One of his biggest snares is to offer you promises that God has planned for you out of God's timing. Meditate on verse 11. Always remember that Satan watches for an opportune time to trap you. Day 29: Read and pray the book of Haggai. Declare all discouragement, disinterest, disillusionment and deferred hope to break from you. Be willing to build again. Day 30: Pray Zech. 8:12,13. From obedience God will strengthen your hands and cause everything our hands will touch to increase. Day 31: Declare Malachi 3:10,11. "Prove Me NOW," says the Lord! Look up and see the windows of blessings that He wants to open up. Watch Him overcome your devourer
